Round 2 – Hooper gets another chance

This past weekend a young military fellow and his wife came by the adoption event and really liked Hooper.  They have a 6 month old Labrador Retriever that they want to get a playmate for.  Both dogs will be crated for 3 to 4 hours 3 days a week.  But they will be crated side by side.  The man works 4 days on, 4 days off and the woman works 5 days a week.  They are really interested and I think the man is more interested than the woman.  He has been the one handling everything and he called last night, told us he had to wait till his wife got home and then called 5 minutes later saying that he called his wife and got the OK while she was driving home.  So that shows excitement and that he really likes Hooper.

It isn’t perfect, but it is pretty good.  He will have a playmate that is close to his age, he will have owners that really like him a lot, and he can take the crate training.  In fact, we have been locking him in the crate for an hour at a time here and there and occasionally leaving him for 3 to 4 hours.  I have locked him up and pretended to leave and then snuck back into the house.  He barks his head off for about 30 minutes and then lays down till he hears a noise in the house. So, I think he will do just fine.

The vet check turned out good, and Mike is going over to their house tonight (Tuesday) to do the home visit.  They are visiting in-laws this coming weekend so they are going to stop by on Sunday and get him on the way back.

Let’s hope this sticks.  He is a good dog and I love playing with him.  I will sorely miss him.  But I haven’t fallen in love with him because he is just too much like Darby and I can’t let myself go through that again.
